Weekend Edition Top 10

  1. Boo. The US team soccer team lost. :(
  2. The Morrison's came to hang out Saturday and we had a great time catching up and eating yummy Shakespeare's Pizza. We played trivial pursuit on our ps3 and I think the questions were rigged since we ended up losing! ha!
  3. Poor little Evan has an ear infection, a horrible raspy cough, has coughed so hard he's been throwing up, and is sleeping awful. I hope he gets better soon. It's tough not being able to do anything to make him feel better.
  4. Got 5 loads of laundry done! now the real task is to put it all away. ugh.
  5. So excited for the 4th of July weekend. We are heading up to see the Indy Laughlins!
  6. Jake and Vienna broke up. Finally.
  7. Can't believe Evan is 13 months old today!
  8. So excited that I only have 5 more weeks of my two summer school classes.
  9. Three days!!!
  10. We definitely have a climber. About 2 seconds after I took this picture he was on top of the music table reading over to the lamp on the end table.

World Cup

Every 4 years, Americans get excited for USA soccer. This year has had many upsets and has been very exciting. We are so proud of our USA team for advancing. This is a video of the USA's reaction from Landon Donovan's extra time goal. It was amazing to watch and I wish I could have screamed when he scored, but that would have woken up Evan from his nap. Anyway, this is great to watch.

Also, in 1994 when the World Cup was here in the United States, I got the opportunity to attend the Bulgaria vs Greece game in Chicago. It was amazing to be in the stadium, to experience the atmosphere, and watch a great game. Btw...I'm rockin' that Chicago hat! ha! :)

Week 3: 1st grade

This week in recording my youth it's all about being six and in first grade! My 1st grade teacher was Mrs. McClellan and I loved her. I remember helping out other students. I remember playing soccer with all of the boys at recess. I remember always wanting to go to the library to get books to read. I remember studying for our spelling tests. She was a great teacher and when I was in 6th grade at the school, I went back to her classroom to help those first graders learn to read. It was even more fun because my little brother was in her class then!

Each week she would pick someone to be the Person of the Week. I was so excited when it was finally my turn to be the person of the week. We received a ribbon with our name on it and the date and got our picture taken in front of the bulletin board. I remember being so excited to get my picture taken that day because my desk was also in it! ha! :) I remember each week having our spelling words and I would always tape them to the top left of my desk. My pencil box would always have to be in the top right next to the crayons and my library books would be under that. Looking at my desk from this picture, I guess I was reading an Ernie book from Sesame Street!

When we were the special person of the week we also got to tell our teacher what our favorite things were. I love looking back at what was my favorite during that time! My dirt bike was my favorite toy growing up. I remember having freedom in the neighborhood to ride a couple of streets over to visit friends and go to the "common grounds" at the top of our street. Peanut butter and jelly is still one of my favorite things to eat. I remember having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, chips, some sort of fruit, and a reese's peanut butter cup every.single.day for lunch! I don't ever remember my favorite color being silver, but I guess it was and I remember loving to jump rope. I finally learned how to do double dutch and I thought I was so cool! ha!

This was the year that I seriously fell in love with the St. Louis Cardinals. I wanted to be a baseball player for Halloween, probably Willie McGee. At our elementary school we got to dress up in our costumes and wear it in school all day. I loved it and we were able to see everyone else's costume as well. Love that hat! ha!

I was always writing and drawing growing up and this year my mom saved some letters I had written. Obviously Willie McGee was my favorite player growing up. I can't believe that she still had them!

Thanks for reading this week and don't forget to head on over to Mommy's Piggy Tales to read more stories. Next week is 2nd grade!

1st pool day this summer

Today we had a fantastic day at the pool. Kayla and her girls met us there and it was fun to catch up and relax for a couple of hours. Evan loves Maddie and Annie and it was fun to watch them play.

Evan is into giving big ol' open mouth sloppy kisses. It was cute to watch!

Love that big smile! :)

A perfect end to pool time....wrinkled baby feet!

A State Park kind of morning...

We spent a great morning at Rock Bridge State Park. It was still cool outside and great to get out of the house and get some exercise and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Someone got to practice their running...

as well as their Harry Potter wand and wizardry skills!

What a great morning!

Week 2: Preschool/Kindergarten Years

This is week 2 out of 15 in recording your history over at Mommy's Piggy TALES. This week we are recording our preschool/kindergarten years.

Dear Evan,
Today I want to share with you some pictures and memories when I was little so one day you'll know about my growing up years.

Nuggett was our goldren retriever growing up and she was such a great dog. We got her when I was almost 2 years old. She was so patient and kind! Below is what Grandma Merritt wrote in my baby book about Nuggett.

I got a new puppy and she sure is cute! I was afraid of the puppy at first so I used to run and jump on my mom and dad when she was coming. Now I am getting used to the dog and I can run with her and play together. My puppy's name is Nuggett and I can even say it.

Christmas has always been my favorite holiday growing up. Not because of all of the presents, but because we were always together as a family. I remember Grandma  decorating the house and Grandpa Merritt going out to get a huge Christmas tree and bringing it inside the house. I remember all of the Christmas cards going up on the fireplace or on the refrigerator for us to look at. I'm guessing this was the year E.T. came out! :)

On August 4, 1981, I became a big sister and your Aunt Kelli was born. Below was written in my baby book

I got a new sister on August 4th. I can't wait until my mom and dad bring her home. Mom tells me she looks alot like me! I talk to my mom every night on the phone and tell her I love her and miss her. I know it's going to be different when mom gets home especially because I was getting used to her big belly! My little sister is SO small. I love to go up to her and kiss her on the cheek. Mom tells me that I am not jealous at all and that she is really proud of me. I like to change my babies diapers just like mom changes my sister's diapers.

Evan, your Aunt Kelli had to have an operation when she was 6 weeks old. She had Pyloric Stenosis and threw up everywhere! She had the operation and was all better, which I know Grandpa and Grandma were relieved!

This picture was taken in our backyard on Holly Hills. We had a 2 family flat and we lived on one side and your Great Grandma Merritt lived on the other side. I loved our swing set in the back yard and there was a church behind our house. They used to have big carnivals there and we would go over and ride the rides. Your Aunt Kelli fell down the steps and scraped her nose....I was probably supposed to be watching her!

On May 14th 1984, your Uncle Brad was born and I finally had a younger brother! Before he was born, we moved from the Holly Hills neighborhood to Fenton, which is where Grandpa and Grandma still live. We moved so I could start school in a good school district and it was right before Brad was born. It was fun having a brother and a sister to play with all the time, even though we sometimes argued and didn't get along, I wouldn't change it for anything.

Below is a picture of my first day of school. I remember loving my backpack! It was red with a stoplight on the front. I thought I was so cool heading off to school while your Aunt Kelli and Uncle Brad had to stay at home with Great Grandma. My kindergarten teacher was Mrs. Loyal.

I remember we took one of our first field trips to Purina Farms and remember feeling so proud and happy that we got to leave school! I remember telling Kelli and Brad all about it. I am in the front row, 4th from the left in the pink shirt.
This is our kindergarten picture and I'm in the front row on the left with the knee stains in my jeans. I was a complete tomboy and loved recess the best! I played soccer with all the boys at recess. One of my best friends, Krista, is in the red jumper, and I'm proud to say that we are still great friends to this day!
