Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!!! I hope everyone has a safe and fun night! We will be handing out candy to our 5 trick or treaters in our neighborhood and making sure the older kids don't TP us! Last night, they got a couple of our neighbor's trees with toilet paper! Maybe we'll send Jack out if we hear them! :) I'll leave you with a couple of Halloween pics since we won't be dressing up this year!

TFT..Finally!

It's been awhile since I've posted a Thoughts for Thursday! Wow! I don't even know WHY its been that long. My thoughts are trickling towards the holidays...with fall here I can't stop thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas! I want to know your holiday traditions...more specifically what do you do about visiting family or having them come to your house over Thanksgiving and Christmas? Do you alternate who you visit each year? Do your parents/family/inlaws visit you and celebrate at your house? With both my parents in St. Louis and Mike's in Columbia, we are trying to figure out what to do. Since we've been married, I think, we've seen each other's families on Thanksgiving and Christmas. and at times it can be stressful...it doesn't even seem like a break! It is going to be a little bit different this year since he has to work on Thanksgiving...I do know he has Christmas off this year. :) Yeah! Anyway, what do you and your spouse/kiddos do? Do you alternate visiting your parents and then his the next year? Or is it the same every year? What would you LIKE to do? I think when we have kids, I would want to start our OWN traditions as a family....I want to be able to relax and enjoy the holidays and see family. Any thoughts?!?!

So true...

HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TEACHER? by Jeff Foxworthy

  1. You can hear 25 voices behind you and know exactly which one belongs to the child out of line.
  2. You get a secret thrill out of laminating something.
  3. You walk into a store and hear the words "It's Ms Mr. _________" and know you have been spotted.
  4. You have 25 people that accidentally call you Mom/Dad at one time or another.
  5. You can eat a multi-course meal in under twenty-five minutes.
  6. You've trained yourself to go to the bathroom at two distinct times of the day: lunch and prep period.
  7. You start saving other people's trash, because most likely, you can use that toilet paper tube or plastic butter tub for something in the classroom.
  8. You believe the teachers' lounge should be equipped with a margarita machine.
  9. You want to slap the next person who says "Must be nice to work 7 to 3 and have summers off."
  10. You believe chocolate is a food group.
  11. You can tell if it's a full moon without ever looking outside.
  12. You believe that unspeakable evils will befall you if anyone says "Boy, the kids sure are mellow today."
  13. You feel the urge to talk to strange children and correct their behavior when you are out in public.
  14. You believe in aerial spraying of Ritalin.
  15. You think caffeine should be available in intravenous form.
  16. You spend more money on school stuff than you do on your own children.
  17. You can't pass the school supply aisle without getting at least five items!
  18. You ask your friends if the left hand turn he just made was a "good choice or a bad choice."
  19. You find true beauty in a can full of perfectly sharpened pencils
  20. You are secretly addicted to hand sanitizer and finally,
  21. You understand instantaneously why a child behaves a certain way after meeting his or her parents.

Oh Deer...

Last night Mike and I were coming back from getting a movie at Blockbuster. We were about 2 miles from our house and WHAM.....a deer hits the side of our car. More precisely, it hit the drivers side mirror. I think I screamed because we saw the face of the deer and even its tongue was hanging out. It was so not nice looking. If it had been a second earlier or later, I think the outcome would have been way different...it might have gone through our windshield and even through the drivers side window....thats how hard it hit us. The side mirror was hanging on by a thread. We immediately pulled over and Mike wasn't feeling right (he was driving). Mike called the police to get the deer removed because you could hear the thump of the cars running over it every 10 seconds and some were even pulling over to check out their cars. His right leg, left knee and back were hurting and I think I was just in shock. I couldn't believe we hit it or it hit us. The ambulance came and Mike rode in that to the hospital just to be on the safe side. I Our driver's side door doesn't open from the impact so I had to climb across and drive the car home, let Jack out, and then take our other car to the hospital. I get to the hospital and as Mike goes to get checked out (xrays and a cat scan), I start to realize that I am hurting too. I tell the nurse that I was in the car as well and I go get xrays. Because I've already had back surgery once, I knew that things weren't broken, but I just wanted to double check that any of the vertebrae's weren't out of place. My results were the L4, L5 (where I had surgery before), there is a little bit of space between them but they didn't know if that was from the surgery or the deer accident. Mike's results all came back okay too. We were really lucky that it wasn't worse. Our car is pretty banged up but at least we are okay. Enjoy your weekend....we're layin' low and staying in the house! :)
The car really doesn't look as bad in the pictures as it does in person, but it's definetely better than the blood trail and the dead deer on the side of the road. yuck.

Mu vs. Nebraska picture....

I'm the one in Gold! ha! :)
Have a great weekend!

Long time coming....

I've been dreading sharing this information over my blog....I don't even know really where to begin or how much info. to share, but I do know some of you wanted to hear about whats been going on.... This has been a 4.5 year process and it is hard to share without getting emotional or knowing exactly how to put it in words....but I'll try.
Mike and I were married almost 5 years ago. We knew from the start that we wanted children and about 6-8 months into our marriage I went off the pill. I thought it would be "easy" for us to get pregnant. My mom has 10 brothers and sisters and all of my cousins who were around our age, would seriously get pregnant just saying the word baby, or looking at someone who was pregnant, or drinking water. :) Us....well, let's just say it is almost 4.5 years later from our conversations when we were first married. After awhile, I chose not to think about it. I didn't know why it was taking so long or what we were doing "wrong", but me not thinking about it just seemed to help. About a year ago, I started seeing a fertility specialist. I started tracking my cycles and figuring out when the "best time" for us to try was. A year later...I'm still tracking. It doesn't help that most of our friends, family, and co workers have all had babies and they haven't been trying as long as we have. I also know for some of our friends they started the adoption process and have beautiful babies now..... I am genuinely excited for our friends who are pregnant, but it still hurts, you know? I have ALWAYS dreamed of being a mom, and I know I will be, I just want it sooner rather than later.
Okay...back to the doctor. I had blood work done, laproscopic surgery to remove endometriosis right before school started. They found some, not alot though, around my ovaries and uterus. They removed that and did a D&C and a hysterography (or something like that). Most women who have the D&C, I thought get pregnant that next month. Well...its been 3 months since then and we still aren't. I don't want this to sound like a pity party....I just want to figure out whats wrong. This past week I had to have a colonoscopy because they did find some endometriosis around my colon. There was a lot more then they thought and they didn't know if it was just around my colon or actually inside, hence the colonoscopy to see. Let's just say I NEVER want to go through with that again. The actual procedure was fine....but the night before was the WORSE thing I've ever done. WORSE than my 9 surgeries, WORSE than any hangover.....I had to drink this chalky mixture, 64 ozs total....8 ozs every 10 minutes. I wanted to vomit. Gross!!! Anyway, he said everything looked okay, which is the good news. He sent some stuff away for biopsies just in case. I feel like I am back at square one. My original doctor who did the laproscopic thought I would have to have surgery to remove the endometriosis around my colon, which is a 6 week recovery time. So my next step, I think, is to see another Ob/Gyn to get his/her opininon. I think I am going to try and schedule one today and get a second opinion and see what they think our next step should be.
So...that's where we are now. This was probably WAY too much information for some of you and I apologize for that :) Thank you for listening to me ramble on and get these thoughts out of my head! ;)

Randomness...

7 Random Things....this has been going around so I've decided to join in! :)
  • Love my new phone! Our contracts expired so Mike and I decided we needed to upgrade
  • Fall is finally here! I absolutely love that it is chilly outside and that I can wear light sweaters and jeans!
  • We have a basketball hoop that we've seriously only used once! How crazy is that?!
  • My nieces are SO stinkin' cute!!!
  • I hope we have some trick-or-treaters this year...last year, we only had a handful!
  • Why are Mike and I so accident prone? He has to now see a hip specialist from his accident a couple of weekends ago and I had to have a colonoscopy today. Yesterday was the WORST day. Preparing for it was the WORST thing I've ever done. It was even worse than a hang over. More on why I had to have it later...
  • I love that my class behaved today while I had a sub....

Chicken BBQ

Even though it rained, we had a great turn out for our annual Chicken BBQ. I had fun helping out at the "drive through" as people came by in their cars to get their meals to take home and watch the Mizzou Tigers lose to Oklahoma. Most of my students were there and they got a kick out of seeing their teacher run back and forth from the drive through cars to the tent where we were bagging the food. I even had a cute little cowboy hat! This was our 51st annual chicken bbq and as you can see from the 1st set of teachers...I'm glad I was not one of them! Look at their outfits! Wow!!!! I hope everyone had a great FALL weekend!!!!

6 days old...

Congrats to Cortney and Matt Teague...whose son, Nathan Matthew, was born on Monday, October 8th. He weighed 7 lbs. and 14 oz. and is so stinkin' cute!

Just our luck...

  • Hopefully this isn't too much of a downer post...some things just aren't going right lately!
  • The first day of fall comes and guess what...I get sick! :( I seriously thought my nose was going to fall off. I went through a WHOLE box of kleenex in 3 hours while I was teaching. My kiddos were calling me Rudolph and I let them...I didn't care. I really did look like him with the big 'ol red nose.
  • Mike was injured in the big Mizzou-Nebraska game. He was on bike patrol and him and another officer were on their way to a call where 20-30 people were fighting. He and the other officer took off down the hill and some idiot didn't get out of the way. Mike had to slam on the brakes and flew over the handlebars. He had to get up and go to the call but reality didn't hit until after the game how sore/hurt he was. Monday he went to get xrays and all that stuff because he landed on his bad shoulder. The xrays came out okay for his hip, shoulder, elbow but his back has a disk out of place and they think that is from his ribs swelling. So....he goes back next Tues. to see if it is better and when he can go back to work. So now he is on worker's comp. since the dept. doesn't have light desk duty.
  • We originally were going to go to Indy to celebrate Mallory's 3rd birthday but Mike had to work...well now he doesn't because of his "extra" vacation...bad news...now I do for our school's chicken bbq.
  • Today is our elementary school's annual chicken bbq where we raise about $25,000 for our school. And it is raining.... :( I hope it stops soon. I am working the drive through from 5-7 pm and I don't want to get wet! The good news is that our class sold the most tickets...we sold 120! They rocked! I think we get to celebrate with a pizza party next week.
  • We were thinking of going to Callaway Farms Pumpkin Patch and Maze today with the Morrisons, but we woke up and yes...you guessed again. It's raining. still. Our house has been shaking from the thunder that's going on. bummer! I was looking forward to seeing them!
