What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

Wordless Wednesday...sortof

I don't really have anything to say today, so I thought I'd do a wordless Wednesday picture. I guess having to explain it doesn't make it a wordless Wed. huh?! :) Oh well....this picture is in our spare bedroom and reminds me that these next 2 weeks are hopefully going to go by fast! I can't wait to see if yesterday worked.....but if not, I will be thankful for all of the other great things that are going on in my life!

Weather

How crazy the weather was today. When I left for work it was over 60* and sunny....by the time I left it was snowing and -1* with the wind chill. I am kindof hoping for a snow day tomorrow...that would be lovely! Hopefully the Midwest will get this taken care of! I don't like how fast the weather changes....I had students come to school today in short sleeves and no coats. Their parents had to come up and bring them a coat before they could go home!

Looking out our classroom window

Driving home from work

Driving down our street

Thank you!

Thank you for all the prayers and well wishes today. It's done...now we have to wait a couple of weeks to see if we made a baby! :) The experience in itself was a little weird, but not too bad. I'll spare you the details, but if for some reason, you do have a question, please email me and I'll try to answer it. And...I'll let ya know in 2 weeks if it worked or not. Happy Tuesday!

Tomorrow

Please keep Mike and I in your prayers tomorrow...we are hopefully makin' a baby with A.I in the morning! Thank you!!!

Hungry dog

Today while I was at work and Mike was at training...Jack decided he wanted to have a little fun in the kitchen. Usually when we are gone we leave him in the kitchen with a baby gate in front of the door so he can't roam all over. Mike was back at home around 11:30. I got a call and Mike asked if I had bought a loaf of bread yesterday...I said Yes, why? He said well, Jack decided to have the WHOLE LOAF! He didn't eat the plastic...just munched and ate every single piece. WOW! I left the loaf on top of the counter thinking that it would be okay....guess not! We will need to be more careful I guess on what we put up there. Mike had him outside just in case it came back up and I told him not to give him too much water so his stomach wouldn't expand. :) Crazy dog! Gotta love 'em though!

Kid Humor on a Monday

Thought this was a great way to start off the week!
  1. NUDITY I was driving with my three young children one warm Summer evening when a woman in the convertible ahead of us stood up and waved. She was stark naked! As I was reeling from the shock, I heard my 5-year-old shout from the back seat, 'Mom! That lady isn't wearing a seat belt!'
  2. OPINIONS On the first day of school, a first-grader handed his Teacher a note from his mother. The note read, 'The opinions expressed by this child are not necessarily those of his parents.'
  3. KETCHUP A woman was trying hard to get the ketchup out of the jar. During her struggle the phone rang so she asked her 4-year-old daughter to answer the phone. 'Mommy can't come to the phone to talk to you right now. She's hitting the bottle.'
  4. MORE NUDITY A little boy got lost at the YMCA and found himself In the women's locker room. When he was spotted, The room burst into shrieks, with ladies grabbing Towels and running for cover. The little boy watched In amazement and then asked, 'What's the matter, Haven't you ever seen a little boy before?'
  5. POLICE # 1 While taking a routine vandalism report at an Elementary school, I was interrupted by a little Girl about 6 years old. Looking up and down at My uniform, she asked, 'Are you a cop?' 'Yes,' I answered and continued writing the report. 'My mother said if I ever needed help I should ask The police. Is that right?' 'Yes, that's right,' I told her. 'Well, then,' she said as she extended her foot toward Me, 'would you please tie my shoe?'
  6. POLICE # 2 It was the end of the day when I parked my police van In front of the station. As I gathered my equipment, my K-9 partner, Jake, was barking, and I saw a little boy Staring in at me 'Is that a dog you got back there?' he Asked. 'It sure is,' I replied. Puzzled, the boy looked At me and then towards the back of the van. Finally he Said, 'What'd he do?'
  7. ELDERLY While working for an organization that delivers lunches To elderly shut-ins, I used to take my 4-year-old daughter on my afternoon rounds. She was unfailingly intrigued by the various appliances of old age, particularly the canes, walkers and wheelchairs. One day I found her staring at a pair of false teeth soaking in a glass. As I braced myself for the inevitable barrage of questions, she merely turned and whispered, 'The tooth fairy will never believe this!'
  8. DRESS-UP A little girl was watching her parents dress for a party. When she saw her dad donning his tuxedo, she warned, 'Daddy, you shouldn't wear that suit.' 'And why not, Darling?' 'You know that it always gives you a headache the next morning. '
  9. DEATH While walking along the sidewalk in front of his church, our minister heard the intoning of a prayer that nearly made his collar wilt. Apparently, his 5-year-old son and his playmates had found a dead robin. Feeling that proper burial should be performed, they had secured a small box and cotton batting, then dug a hole and made ready for the disposal of the deceased. The minister's son was chosen to say the appropriate prayers and with sonorous dignity intoned his version of what he thought his father always said: 'Glory be unto the Father, and unto the Son, and into the hole he goooes.'
  10. SCHOOL A little girl had just finished her first week of school. 'I'm just wasting my time,' she said to her mother. 'I can't read, I can't write and they won't let me talk!'
  11. BIBLE A little boy opened the big family bible. He was fascinated As he fingered the old pages. Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible. He picked Up the object and looked at it. What he saw was an Old leaf that had been pressed in between the pages. 'Mama, look what I found,' the boy called out. 'What have you got there, dear?' With astonishment in The young boy's voice, he answered, 'I think it's Adam's underwear.'

Check....

I can finally check off painting our bathroom from the list of things I would like to do. It only took about 1 hour to paint and then about an hour to dry and now it is completely done. I am so excited. The pictures, rug, and accessories look so good in there! Here are a few pictures from today....next up...the main bathroom. :)

Random

  • I feel like I haven't talked about anything else except wanting babies and my grandma...so here's some other things that have been going on lately

  1. My class is amazing. We have been having a great time in class lately and we have a student teacher this semester, so they are excited. We are reading some great books for our book clubs and the Missouri Mark Twain Award books. Some I would recommend are Kingdom Keepers, Peak, The Old Willis Place, and Abduction.
  2. I am hosting our Bunco group in February and I'm excited to have everyone over to see our house. It will be all Valentiney...is that even a word?! Does anyone want to come??? It's Feb. 21st at 6:30 pm.
  3. Jack seems to be a little under the weather lately...or maybe he's bored because he can't be outside for too long because it's freezin'.
  4. Mike and I are going to go to the Lake of the Ozarks in Feb. with the Morrisons for a little getaway! So excited!
  5. We are currently watching Top Gun and we both forgot how good it is. :) Tom Cruise looks so young. (Negative GhostRider, the pattern is full!) That's for you Ryan..from Mike :)
  6. I am going to finally paint our bathroom this weekend. Hopefully when I take the tape off it won't take the wall off too since I've had it on for 5 days!
  7. My students have been learning about robotics from their science teacher and it's amazing what they've learned. They programmed them and got to try them out on the course.
8. I am going to start scrapbooking 2008 pictures this weekend so I don't get SO behind.
9. My grandma is doing much better. They said it wasn't a stroke, maybe pnenomia and maybe her diabetes played a part in what happened. She is still in the hospital because bacteria got into her bloodstream and they are waiting until that is gone before releasing her.
10. It's been freezing lately and I've been wondering WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FOOD/DRINK TO MAKE ON A COLD WINTER DAY???

life

First of all...I love Katie Mohr! She rocks! She wrote about a topic that has been on my heart lately and I'll tell you why...but first...read her post! Click here! I am not really sure where to start or what is going to come out as I sit here typing this so bear with me. I am not an eloquent writer...so I'll do my best to share. As some of you know, Mike and I have been trying to have a baby for the last 4 years. At first, we thought, whenever it happens it will happen.....but, now 4 years later, it still hasn't happened. I have always wanted to be a mom and experience motherhood and I know I will...I just thought it would have happened sooner rather than later. Awhile back we decided to go to the doctor and get checked out to see what the problem could be. I did have some endometriosis and had surgery to get that taken care of, but it still wasn't happening. In the beginning, along the way we never thought to get Mike tested. We just thought it was me....so a couple of months ago, Mike was finally tested and part of our difficulty is him and his boys. The other part could be that I'm allergic to his sperm or any other of the unknown reasons why people are having a hard time conceiving. For now, we are seeing a specialist and are going to be starting artificial insemination this month, or as soon as I ovulate. Of course, this isn't even a guarantee that it will work. The questions that I keep coming back to is WHY? (bear with me as I ramble on...) Why did we wait so long to have Mike tested? Why does it seem that EVERYONE is pregnant right now? I turn around and someone else in our circle is pregnant...and I am so happy for them, but still think WHY can't it be us?! Why are so many couples these days having a hard time conceiving? Why I don't know many of the questions that I keep coming to, but I do know that everything happens for a reason and that God does have a plan for us. I don't like being labeled as infertile...and when people ask about us and kids and if we are trying I want to yell at them and say YES we've been trying for 4 freakin' years. I know their are other couples who have been trying longer and I am so envious at their strength and gratitude for the things that are happening in their lives. I am so grateful for the friends (and blog friends) that are in my life. I am not one to share my feelings so openly and be so honest and to be able to share this with other women who are going through this or have gone through this helps me realize that it is not just us. So as we (and others) are going through this time in our/their lives please pray that we'll have strength and guidance throughout this process and trust that God has his plan for us. Thanks.

Update

My grandma is still in the hospital....they are still running tests and don't really know what happened or what's wrong. She doesn't remember anything from that day so that's pretty scary to me. My sister went up to visit her and my parents, and Kelli said she doesn't look like her "normal" self. I feel so bad being 2 hrs. away...I'm thinking I'll definitely have to come in Fri. after work or Sat. I hope it's nothing too serious. She is having a hard time with this because she can't remember what happened and it is frusterating to her. She loves puzzles and my mom brought up her puzzle that she usually does in the everyday paper, and she couldn't complete the cryptogram section.....so...apparently something is still wrong...she knows something is wrong and I don't like that. I feel so bad. I've never gone through anything like this and don't know what to do. It could just be because she has diabetes and was sick with the flu and didn't get enough fluids or food that day...but still...based on what my mom and sister said, she just didn't look like herself. Anyway, I thought I'd let you all know.....please continue your prayers. Thank you!

prayers...

My grandma merritt was taken to the hospital tonight....they don't know if she had a stroke or something else...please keep her and us in your thoughts and prayers. thank you

How many did you know about?

How many of these did you know about? I got this in an email from and friend and thought it was interesting...I'm not sure how many are actually true. I guess I'll have to try a few and see if they work...especially # 10, 12, and 18!

  1. A sealed envelope - Put in the freezer for a few hours, then slide a knife under the flap. The envelope can then be resealed. (hmmmmmm
  2. Use Empty toilet paper roll to store appliance cords. It keeps them neat and you can write on the roll what appliance it belongs to
  3. For icy door steps in freezing temperatures: get warm water and put Dawn dish washing liquid in it. Pour it all over the steps. They won't refreeze.
  4. To remove old wax from a glass candle holder, put it in the freezer for a few hours. Then take the candle holder out and turn it upside down. The wax will fall out.
  5. Crayon marks on walls? This worked wonderfully! A damp rag, dipped in baking soda. Comes off with little effort (elbow grease that is!).
  6. Permanent marker on appliances/counter tops use rubbing alcohol on paper towel
  7. Whenever I purchase a box of S.O.S Pads, I immediately take a pair of scissors and cut each pad into halves. After years of having to throw away rusted and unused and smelly pads, I finally decided that this would be much more economical. Now a box of S.O.S pads last me indefinitely! In fact, I have noticed that the scissors get 'sharpened'' this way
  8. Blood stains on clothes? Not to worry! Just pour a little hydrogen peroxide on a cloth and proceed to wipe off every drop of blood. Works every time!
  9. Use vertical strokes when washing windows outside and horizontal for inside windows. This way you can tell which side has the streaks. Straight vinegar will get outside windows really clean. Don't wash windows on a sunny day. They will dry too quickly and will probably streak
  10. Spray a bit of perfume on the light bulb in any room to create a lovely light scent in each room when the light is turned on
  11. Place fabric softener sheets in dresser drawers and your clothes will smell freshly washed for weeks to come. You can also do this with towels and linen
  12. Candles will last a lot longer if placed in the freezer for at least 3 hours prior to burning
  13. To clean artificial flowers, pour some salt into a paper bag and add the flowers. Shake vigorously as the salt will absorb all the dust and dirt and leave your artificial flowers looking like new! Works like a charm!
  14. To easily remove burnt on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to a boil on stove top.
  15. Spray your TUPPERWARE with nonstick cooking spray before pouring in tomato based sauces and there won't be any stains.
  16. Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks.
  17. When boiling corn on the cob, add a pinch of sugar to help bring out the corn's natural sweetness
  18. Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half, and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.
  19. Don't throw out all that leftover wine: Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces ........ Left over wine? What's that? :)
  20. To get rid of itch from mosquito bites, try applying soap on the area and you will experience instant relief.
  21. Ants, ants, ants everywhere ... Well, they are said to never cross a chalk line. So, get your chalk out and draw a line on the floor or wherever ants tend to march. See for yourself.
  22. Use air-freshener to clean mirrors. It does a good job and better still, leaves a lovely smell to the shine.
  23. When you get a splinter, reach for the scotch tape before resorting to tweezers or a needle. Simply put the scotch tape over the splinter, and then pull it off. Scotch tape removes most splinters painlessly and easily
  24. Now look what you can do with Alka Seltzer........

Clean a toilet. Drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes, brush and flush. The citric acid and effervescent action clean vitreous China

Clean a vase. To remove a stain from the bottom of a glass vase or cruet, fill with water and drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets

Polish jewelry. Drop two Alka Seltzer tablets into a glass of water and immerse the jewelry for two minutes

Clean a thermos bottle. Fill the bottle with water, drop in four Alka Seltzer tablets, and let soak for an hour (or longer, if necessary

Unclog a drain. Clear the sink drain by dropping three Alka Seltzer tablets down the drain followed by a cup of Heinz White Vinegar. Wait a few minutes, and then run the hot water.

Makes you wonder about ingesting Alka Seltzer, doesn't it?

Sat. thoughts....

Beware...random thoughts below:
So...it is Saturday and I am STILL sick. This is insane. I have been taking medicine but obviously it isn't working. Mike has to work today and then is working the Mizzou vs. Kansas basketball game tonight, so I'll see him around 11:30 tonight or so.... Last night we did absolutely nothing. I came home and we just vegged out on the couch watching the Dog whisperer. Love that show! I got a call last night from my mom and she had to take my dad to the emergency room/urgent care because he was having heart pain/palpitations. Scary! I was up for awhile after that....couldn't sleep. Just thinking about what would I do with my dad or my mom for that matter. I didn't like that feeling. Good news though....apparently nothing was wrong, so he is at home today resting. I am thinking about trying to take a visit back home but I need to get better first. I can't believe I've been sick for so long. I am so thankful we have Monday off. I can try to get better and even get some things done around the house. It seems that there is never enough time with a 2 day weekend. I am thinking about taping the bathrooms so I can start painting them. I want to get them done! It's been over 2 years and we haven't done anything with them and it's time for a change. Hopefully I can get at least 1 bathroom taped today....we'll see! I hope you have a great weekend! What do you have planned on this long 3 day weekend? I'd love to hear what you are doing....probably something better than taping bathrooms! ha!

share time

I am still feeling pretty sick, but I got an email from a friend about this crime area map and it is scary stuff. You can see where people who committed crimes work and live around you. It is family watchdog. When you visit this site you can enter your address and a map will pop up with your house as the small icon of a house and red, blue, green, dots surrounding your entire neighborhood. When you click on these dots a picture of a person will appear with an address and the description of the crime he or she had committed. This site was developed by John Walsh from Americas Most Wanted. Another tool to help us keep our kids safe....

Sick day

Today is a sick day for me. I went in to school because I had a meeting but I am feeling like crap. Mike took off around 11 am since they had a lot of other officers working. He is making me soup and taking care of me. :) I have a couple of kids who have recently had strep and I hope that is not what I have. I don't think I do...I think I have a sinus infection or just a cold. We are watching Hot Rod and hopefully I'll be able to fall asleep and get some rest. I hope your day is going better than mine!

Busy busy...

Today was a whirlwind day. Mike had to work today and I think was up around 4:30. He was busy working today and I was busy around the house. I went to church this morning and listened to a guest speaker, Greg Boyd, and he wrote Letters from a Skeptic. He was very good and it makes me want to read his book! After church I ran a couple of errands and came back and started cleaning up from Christmas and putting things away. It feels like it took most of the morning. We have new bathroom pictures and towels so I had to put those up, clean, and get everything organized. I also did 2 loads of laundry and cleaned the living room. It was a busy and productive day! Starting tonight at our church, until Tues. night we are attending these "Crash Courses". They are small classes to help you with your personal growth. Last year we took Dave Ramsey's financial peace class and it was amazing. This year we are taking a do it yourself bible study and it is going to be outstanding. We are getting the tools needed to really help us with this and I'm excited to not be so overwhelmed when looking at the bible and how to go about reading it. I hope you had a great Sunday. Dan and Amanda....sorry about those Colts! miss ya. :) Have a great start of your week everyone!

Shower day

Sarah Beth had her bridal shower today and it was beautiful! Her bridesmaids did an excellent job with the decorations, food, and even the games. Below are some pictures from today....41 more days until their wedding! Mike and I also got the chance to see their new house and we even took our Christmas decorations down today. We are still putting some presents/gifts away and trying to get everything back in order, but I'll think we'll haveit done tomorrow. :) We were productive! Tonight we also went to dinner at Mike's sergeant's house and played Trivia Pursuit and had a great steak dinner. I hope you had a great Saturday!

She's here!!!

Alexa Rose is here! She is beautiful!!!
She came into the world at 10:13 am weighing in at 7 lbs. 7 oz.
Congrats Martine and Pete!!!

On and on

It just feels like this week is going on forever....maybe it was the craziness of Monday or that today is ONLY Wed. Wow! I am tired..... Nothing new really going on. Our internet at home isn't working so I can only blog before or after school. Hopefully it will be working soon! Mike and I have been going to bed around 8:30. Yes...that's right. 8:30. I don't know what's the matter with us. We have been working out at night and when we're finished we're exhausted! We have also been busy playing on of our new games. It is a mega quiz game show called Buzz and it is fun!
I am also excited because my college roommate, Martine, is in labor as we speak! She lives in New York with her husband Pete and they are about to have a little boy or girl! We are so thrilled for them!

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday!!! woohoo! The weekend is ALMOST here! :)

Severe Weather and our end of day

Had a great Monday....until 3:15 hit. We were supposed to get bad weather around 3, so I thought we had missed it. The tornado sirens started going off...we were working on nutrition and my kids say, "Why are the sirens going off? It's not the first Wednesday of the month is it?" NOPE! We headed into the library, ducked and tucked, and waited....and waited....and waited. About 25 minutes later, we let the kids sit up so they could breathe and waited some more. We were on a weather lockdown until 4:45. 1 and a half hours with 8 classes in the library....the kids actually did pretty well considering this was a real tornado drill. We had heard that a tornado was spotted in the area or maybe a little further south. We had a lot of students crying and me and the teachers did our best to keep them calm. I felt bad for them because I remember a tornado drill we had when I was in elementary school and we were on "lockdown" too and I remember crying and being really scared. The kids were pretty good until they realized they would get home late (since school usually gets out at 3:40 and we didn't get out until an hour after that) but cheered up once they realized they wouldn't have homework! There were a lot of smiles after that!At least we were locked down in the library...it could have been a lot worse. We could have been locked down in the boys bathroom! Yuck! Below are some pictures from tonight... After 25 minutes...the kids finally got to sit up and get some air!

Happy Weekend

We planned on having a nice, relaxing weekend and for the most part we did. Jack decided to have fun with us this weekend...let me explain. We were sleeping soundly and all of a sudden (around 5:30am) our car alarm is going off. I look out the window to make sure that there no one breaking in and that it is an accident. I look out and there is no one there. Jack is barking, the alarm is going off, and I can not find my keys. I am digging through my purse, taking things out, but still can't find them. Jack is still barking and the alarm is still going off. I remembered that the keys were in my right coat pocket. I stick my hand in the pocket and realize that there isn't a pocket anymore....just a hole. For some reason, I don't think twice about it now...I am just trying to find the keys. I look back to tell Jack to stop barking and next to him on the floor were my keys. He had accidentally set off the panic button. I pick up the keys, turn off the alarm and realize that the keys are sticky and chocolately. I then looked at my coat pocket again....put 2 and 2 together and realize Jack ate a hole in my coat pocket because I had left a peppermint patty in there. He ate the peppermint patty and the wrapping too! I was ticked. So...we called the vet and he said that little bit of chocolate won't hurt Jack and to just give him a few treats until we see the shiny wrapper in his #2. I go wash off the keys and some of it still isn't coming off. gross! Hopefully this won't happen again....it is not a good way to wake up!
We ran some errands yesterday and then one of Mike's co workers and his wife had a game night last night, so we went by there for a little bit. We played Apples to Apples, Scene it Squabble, and the new Cranium. We had a great night and it was a blast! Today we went to church and lunch with his parents to Subway and now I am procrastinating my school work and planning by blogging! Fun huh? I have lots to do and don't really want to get it done....but I guess I better. I hope you are all having a great weekend as well....it's 60* here today! wow!

New Photo Blog

So...I am going to try to create a photo-a-day blog for 2008...so far, I've done it for 4 days! woohoo! I think I am going to like looking back through the year and having a memory book to remember the important events for that day. Hopefully I can make it! Here is the link

Laughlin pictures

So, I just now realized that I never posted some of my favorite pictures from the Laughlin christmas. We had a pretty good time with family hanging out and playing games. Of course, Madison and Mallory were too cute and tons of fun! I'm too tired to write more....so glad its Friday! Have a great weekend!
