Sorry we can't be together this weekend, but we'll work something out so we can be together soon. I saw this on FB and popped over here to ...Kasey... I saw this on FB and popped over here to see what was happening. And I wanted to tell you that we went through almost this exact same thing last year! My daughter Parker woke up one morning with a low grade fever but seemed ok, then she fell asleep on the couch around 9am and by 10am she started having seizures. She had 7 total between our house, the ambulance and the ER. She was in the PICU for a day while they worked to figure out what was happening and it ended up being a severe kidney infection (didn't go to her blood) that went to her brain. By day two she wasn't talking and acting totally drunk. By day three they did an EEG (EKG? I always get them confused!) and her brain waves had slowed considerably. HERE'S the kicker though! For SIX days in the hospital they had her on the WRONG meds. Someone had charted her bacteria wrong and they were treating her for e-coli when in fact she had some really rare bacteria. It took infectious disease (who actually read the whole chart) to catch the MASSIVE mistake. Anyway, once she got on the right meds she was great. 9 days in the hospital and THREE WEEKS with a picline for IV meds that went straight to her heart. It was an awful and incredibly scary/exhausting month! Hang in there. Become good friends with the child-life specialists b/c they will come in and play! Get to know the nurses (have family bring them treats!) and friend them. Order EVERYTHING you can for his meals even if he's not eating... you can order like jello/chips/yogurt/pudding/etc that will keep... Chris would take bags of food home! :) Oh and take lots of photos. As awful as it is right now one day you might want to look back and process it all. And write. I blogged everyday and it really helped me.
