Week 9: 7th grade

Welcome to the awkward years! 1991-1992 :) The hair, the braces, not really fitting in, and trying to do well in school so I could continue to play soccer. Ahhh...what memories! I remember getting pink and green bands on my braces and thinking that it was cool. What was I thinking and why didn't my parents stop me from getting those colors. :) ha! I can't even imagine all of the cans of hairspray I went through...

First day of Jr. High School. We had 7th, 8th, and 9th grade at our school. I remember being very excited that I could now carry a purse and there was no way that I was going to use a book bag since we had...gasp...Lockers! That was the highlight of the year...decorating your locker with pictures and the magnetic mirror and finding the locker shelves that fit perfectly. I remember thinking the school was huge and there were girls and guys who seemed SO old. It was weird to have 9th graders there...and yes, I'm sure we all got picked on, but thankfully nothing stands out. I remember feeling so weird changing clothes for PE since that had never happened before and I remember how cool I felt that we got to switch classes and teachers.

I was on a wonderful soccer team, J.B. Marine and we were a traveling club team. This was the year that we traveled to Sioux Falls, South Dakota for Regionals. We had already won state and we won the Regional tournament this year too! We were too young to go to Nationals, so we were very proud of our accomplishments. I started playing with this team when I was 11 and stopped playing after college (Under-23 team). These team members are some of the greatest friends I have ever had and I'm so glad that we still keep in touch. This year we took a family vacation to South Dakota since we were already there for soccer. it was fun to see the sights with my family...we saw Mount Rushmore (unfortunately the video and pictures we took are no where to be found) and the Badlands. Letting me play soccer was one of the best thing my parents ever did for me. It made me more confident, aware of myself and others, and taught me about friendship. I also knew that I had to do well in school and keep my grades up, otherwise I wouldn't be able to play in the games (my parent's rules). Our coach on the top left passed away 2 years ago from cancer and at his funeral was a lot of the pictures of us during his coaching days. It made me proud and he will always be missed...

Edited: Found some more pics from the trip! :)

After winning Regionals, each person on the team got to keep the trophy for about a week. It was huge!

This was also the first year that signing yearbooks was a really big deal.   :)

This picture is of Krista and I and Bobby. He was just a friend...although I think he might have liked Krista.  I believe this was one of our first dances in jr. high. This even made it into the yearbook...and the caption read "Some people come to the dance just to hang out!" Nice.....It's 100% true though. I could never dance...still can't! I'm so glad I was able to go through these awkward years with my great friend, Krista!

I love seeing your clothes and bangs. I wore things similar. Many of your memories match my own and just make me smile to think of what excited us at that time in our lives.
