Week 10: 8th grade

8th grade. 1992-1993. Last year of junior high! I loved my 8th grade year. I started joining more clubs and getting outside of my comfort zone by talking to others and making new friends. They were building a new high school so we were going to be the second class to attend the new school the following year. The 9th graders at Rockwood South were going to also be going to the new high school and starting as sophomores. 8th grade brought more hairspray and making sure my bangs were "just right", noticing the boys...I was definitely still a tomboy though.  I remember learning how to sew a pillow and dissect a frog....still two things that aren't on the top of my list...ha! Overall a great year and I did love most of my teachers too...except for the one with the glass eye...

Rockwood South Junior High....now it is called Rockwood South Middle School with 6th, 7th and 8th graders.

This was at one of the 8th grade dances....I am on the right hand side. Apparently line dances were in that year! :)I remember so wanting to wear one of my dad's polo shirts to the dance so I was thrilled when he let me. I'm not sure why, but apparently that was the thing to do...

I was also in National Junior Honor's Society and got to help serve ice cream during the ice cream social. :)

I think the only reason I joined mixed choir was because of the boys....I definitely could NOT sing and still can't! :) Can't believe I wore turtlenecks with a windbreaker....ah...fashion! I was also on the yearbook staff (which I loved!) and probably why I am so into pictures and making sure my memories are written down and in scrapbooks. Krista was also in choir with me...she is in the front row wearing my flower shirt that I wore on picture day! :) I love having friends where you share clothes! I was also glad that she was in National Honor's Society with me too!

National Junior Honor's Society....(Krista is on my left) :)

8th grade was also the year I started playing basketball in a real league. I loved it! I also ended up playing all 4 years of high school too.

On my travel soccer team, J.B. Marine, this year we went to the WAGS tournament in Washington D.C. It was one of the best trips I've ever been on and I definitely want to go back since I haven't been since this trip. We saw all of the sights and this was also my first time flying in an airplane. Seeing history and all of the monuments was beautiful and I definitely didn't appreciate it until much much later. Unfortunately all of the video was written/taped over...just like our trip to South Dakota. boo.... Great trip and great memories though.

End of the year....yearbook signing and making cat eyes with my best friend, Krista. ha! We were SO silly that summer. Does anyone else remember wearing hats on your belt loops instead of wearing them on your head? What were we thinking???? I remember being so excited to go to high school. I couldn't wait to play soccer against other schools and older girls. I couldn't wait to attend the brand new high school and start gaining independence!

Family pictures! This picture is a group shot of my cousins and I from my 8th grade year....
Then...

 Now...

8th grade graduation!!!!!!!

End of the yearbook memories....it's hilarious looking back at what was popular then in music and movies!

I am popping in from group 3.

I enjoyed reading this. We are close to the same age so many of your memories are similar to my own. And the song list - I sooo remember all of those at the school dances :-)

You brought back so many memories for me. 92-92 was my sophomore year in high school so I remember ALL of that! Great job!

Ha! I remember wanting to wear my mom's clothes, but I don't think I borrowed any polo shirts:)

Love the video tape rental $3.

You were a true artist with your bangs:)

Love the story. Hasn't this story project been fun? You're a lot younger so yours is really different than my experience. What a fun trip. You should definitely go back and experience it as an adult. That cat-eye pic is way creepy. LOL
