Question for you...

Leave a comment and let me know what were the essential items you needed/used for the bag you took to the hospital for the birth of your baby! I am trying to get that organized this week and realize that I have NO idea what to put in there! So...I need your help! THANK YOU!!!

when i left for the hospital - i honestly had no idea i'd actually be having tucker, so i threw some things together but forgot one VERY important thing: a camera.

the first pictures we have of tucker after birth are from the nurses station camera so i have no copies, no negative, no nothing, just the photo (which i'm very thankful for). i was a RETARD!

bring your camera (and things to keep you lookin' pretty, something for both you and evan to wear home, and maybe some snacks if you are not a big fan of hospital food)! :)

I thought I still had plenty of time to pack my bag (I had started, but it was complete) because my doctor said "there is no way this baby is coming early", but Norah came 2 weeks early. I think it is great that you are packing your bag now!! I would suggest taking some dvd's - if you get an epideral - you may have time to just relax.

With Daphne I was scheduled to have a c-section so I hadn't even started packing a bag. When she came a week prior to that we just through a bag together in the middle of the night. Funniest thing is that I grabbed clothes and toiletries and Kevin grabbed the cameras, phone charger, and computer, but absolutely nothing else. He had no clothes, no deoderant, no toothbrush!

Our hospital provides pretty much everything for the baby/you during your stay. So, while with Porter I packed everything and the kitchen sink (slippers... robe etc etc), I found that 99% of it was a waste of space. With Hudson I packed the bare necessities: deoderant/toothbrush/toothpaste etc... an outfit to wear home (for me and him)... the laptop and the cameras. That's it! Our hospital provides diapers, wipes, formula, pads, etc... if your hospital doesn't provide that stuff, make sure you pack it. And probably a blanket or 2 for the baby. Oh! and the carseat :)

Bring your own pillow, the hospital ones are horrible. Don't forget to stock up on pads and those nursing pads for home. You shouldn't need those at the hospital, but you will want a good supply at home since you may not venture out right away. You will probably get everythiny, but like the above comment says...make sure your hubby brings what he needs. Mine forgot the essencials too (and this is bad b/c I was planned induction!)

Chapstick, hair rubber band, toothbrush, yes slippers for walking around the hospital... pants with a comfortable waistband and something that doesn't give anything NEAR a wedgie. Shirts that can be lifted up easily and nursing bras if you plan to breastfeed.

reading material, or if you are making something (I was crocheting a blanket for Isaac & that helped pass he time) comfortable clothes that don't wrinkle up too easy...you may & probably will have company coming & going & you will be exhausted.

This may be TMI but there are some things people just don't tell you and they should! The pads they give you at the hospital are horrible! They are so big and bulky you feel like you are wearing a diaper and everyone can see it when you get up to walk around. I asked my hubby to bring up some of the "always" pads that I had at home and he came back with a box of pantyliners...like those were going to do any good. I just laughed at him and then sent my mom to get what I needed.

A word of advice....pack in advance! I mean like now... I went into the hospital at 30 weeks and didn't come out until Donnie was born at 34 1/2 weeks, nothing was packed, I was totally unprepared and it was horrible. I never in a million years would have thought I was going to go into the hospital that early and stay that looooong, but no one does of course. Just to be on the safe side, I would have a bag of just essentials for yourself & a few baby items...a blanket, an outfit, I think the hospital will have everything else you need. Definitely, get some things for home, it's nice to be prepared when you get home... pads, formula, nursing pads(if you nurse), pacifiers, diapers, pads(not to be gross, but you'll go through a ton of those suckers...ewww, sorry!)

**BTW...if you do nurse, the Medela Nursing Pump is free with Messa insurance, if that is your teacher insurance carrier?? It's an awesome pump!! Just an FYI. Bonus for teaching!**

i agree with the chapstick and hair bands!! i also brought fuzzy pink slippers and had a pedicure around my due date, and that made me feel happy since i wasn't looking too good elsewhere. :)
you will definitely want your camera (and video camera) - and make sure you have the batteries and chargers! i brought my laptop too. we brought other stuff to pass time with - a deck of cards, ipod, etc - but honestly, we didn't even get them out of the bag. and i was there for a few days. during labor it was the middle of the night and after my epidural, we just hung out and talked. and then after max was born we spent our time staring at him and talking with visitors. :)
we brought clothes for me and max to go home in. otherwise, we pretty much just used whatever was at the hospital - our hospital was awesome, they basically told us to loot max's bassinet when we left - we grabbed diapers, vaseline, blankets, even some clothes, everything! and their blankets are better than anything else we had at home. :) i'd see if your hospital provides everything the baby needs - a lot less stuff for you to worry about bringing that way.

For Evan:Carseat and a going home outfit. If your hospital is like ours, they provide everything that you will need.

For you:Toiletries, slippers, going home outfit and a comfy bra. Oh, chapstick and a hair tie are a must, too. Yes, the pads are terrible at the hospital, but you are going to want to use their stuff while you are there. I have heard of women buying a new pretty pair of pj's and it's so not worth it.

For Mike:Camera, laptop, toiletries and comfy clothes. Jade went there in a pair of jeans and wore some sweats the rest of our stay so he was more comfy.

Hope this helps! :)

I brought a pair of Travis's soccer shorts to wear under the gown after having the kids, that way I could move freely without fear of flashing the world.
I also brought loose, soft pants and nursing tanks to wear.
I loved having my own pillow as well, made it easier to relax in the bed for 2+ days.

I think everyone else said what I was going to. I will say this though...have Mike pack stuff too. Kyle packed some comfy clothes and some snacks. When I started labor, I didnt want kyle to leave my side!!! If you forget sthg or need anything when you are in labor, give me a call and I will get it for you!!
