Registering

We are going to register this weekend for our little boy! Woohoo! I want to hear from you though.... What is or was the best thing that you had/have for your little one???!!!! There is a ton of stuff out there, so we are a little overwhelmed and I know we don't need it all, but I want to know what was your #1 item! Please share!!!!

Don't get the Odor-less Diaper Pail by Safety 1st. Its not so Odorless!! We are getting something different this time around!

Our diaper pail rocks, it's the Diaper Dekor. Slightly more expensive ($40) but at almost two years old there is STILL NO SMELL. The refills are $20 for a 3-pack but the first pack got us to 8 months old. Well worth the money. It is a little known secret.

Also if you are planning on breastfeeding, a boppy pillow. Gives your arms a great break because you can rest the baby on it.

We just went to Babies R'Us for the first time last weekend. Talk about overwhelming! Where are you guys registering? I have a bunch of friends sending me suggestions...I'm hearing you can't live without a swing and/or bouncy chair that runs on batteries. Some of those swings though have so much stuff on them, no wonder kids are over-stimulated!

Have fun. :)

stuff we used -
boppy (if you are breastfeeding)
cloth diapers to use for burp cloths
pack n play
bouncy seat and swing
swaddling blankets (the 30x30 receiving blankets don't work well for swaddling - they aren't big enough. we had a waffle weave one we used a lot that was longer on one side, and gymboree makes nice ones, or they make the ones w/velcro)
diaper genie/champ/dekor
plain onesies and the sleepers with elastic or drawstrings on the bottom - in other words, practical clothes that no one wants to buy you :)
baby bjorn or sling (if you go with the bjorn, i'd get the 'active' one w/more back support)
bottles (we used playtex ventaire)
travel high chair (we use this ALL the time, but we go out to eat and travel a lot)
the baby whisperer book
mirror for the car so you can see the baby

stuff we've never used -
bottle warmer
wipes warmer
bassinet
bumbo (well, not very much anyway - could have done w/o it)

and - i wouldn't register for any 'cute' clothes in newborn sizes... you will definitely get some anyway, and you don't need that many! and i also wouldn't register for pacifiers - we got about 10 of them from the hospital, and you don't know what your baby will like. we also got the bulb nose sucker thing from the hospital, and a small plain black diaper bag that tom would use. :)

we thought pampers swaddlers were the best diapers when max was tiny.

p.s. when you're leaving, steal whatever you can from the hospital! they have the best stuff. :)

Our Rainforest bouncer has been a life saver. He didn't start using it until he was 5-months old, but he loves it and it has made his legs very strong! We didn’t really use the swing to much, so if you don’t get one you are more than welcome to borrow ours!

Have Fun!!!!

We loved

-cloth diapers for burp cloths
-lots of receiving blankets for swaddling
-lots of extra sheets and an extra mattress pad. There were many nights we changed bedding during the first couple of months
-bouncy seat. the most stuff on them, the better.
-boppy-i used it for nursing and reyna loved to lounge in it during the day
-a diaper genie or diaper dekor. we have a genie and i wish we would have bought the dekor.

I wouldn't bother with wipes warmer, bottle warmers.

If you are going to nurse, I would recommend a Medela pump. Don't bother with the manual hand held. It will take you all day to get one bottle. : )

Hope this helps.

Oh, our pack n' play is used all the time. Reyna never liked her swing. But, each baby is differnt.

I obviously don't have much advice at this point, but I can certainly identify with the feeling of being overwhelmed! Hang in there and be mindful that even though you register for it, people are still going to get you what THEY want- at least that is what I have witnessed! All in all though, its stuff you need regardless. You'll get it figured out, promise!
