Grandma Harmon

We were up in Iowa Wed-Fri saying goodbye to Mike's Grandma Harmon. She passed away at the age of 96 on Friday, March 16th.

Jean, a twin, was born in Nevada, Iowa, on October 28, 1915, the daughter of Gilbert and Clara (Corbin) Pierce. She graduated from Nevada High School in 1933. On May 7, 1935, Jean married James "Jim" Harmon. Jean was a farmer's wife and helped Jim with most tasks on the farm including the livestock, harvest, and making sure the fields were free of weeds. Jean enjoyed spending time with her family, visiting and playing card games and Scrabble. She also enjoyed quilting, mushroom hunting, and reading, including reading the entire Holy Bible. Jean and Jim were world travelers. Their trips took them to most of the 50 states, Canada, Mexico, the Holy Land, Egypt, China, and many European countries.

Those left to cherish Jean's memory are her sons, Jerry (Joyce) Harmon of Maxwell and Richard (Dick) Harmon of Mingo and his friend, Linda German from Adel; daughters, Linda (Harold) Laughlin of Columbia, Missouri and Patty (Jim) Titus of Eldora; ten grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband (of almost 75 years!); one son; two brothers; three sisters, and one grandson.

Having to say goodbye is hard, but we know we'll see her again in heaven. It was fun to be able to catch up and see family and hang out with the Indy Laughlins too! And as Evan says, "play with my tou-zins."
