Kitchen Advice....

Alright blog friends and lurkers...I need your help! Our kitchen is way too dark and I am at a loss on what to do in our kitchen and I do not have a design eye, so I need advice and lots and lots of help! :) We are hoping to leave the floor as is, here are our options:

  1. Change the wall color to something lighter (ideas on what color would help too!)
  2. Change the cabinet color (again...color help!)
  3. Change both the wall color and cabinet color...
  4. Change the countertops
PLEASE feel free to leave a comment on what to do and what color would look best!!!! I have no idea! :) Thank you!

Ha! I love the photo of your two kids at the table. :)

I would paint the cabinets white. I would paint the walls a tan/beige color that you could pull from the floor colors. The counters look pretty neutral, so I'd stick with that! If you do counters, what kind of material do you want to use?

I love renovations! :) WIll Evan help paint?

Easy peasy! I'd paint the cabinets black, distress them a tad.... paint the wall a tan/taupe pulled from the light colors on the floor (something a tinge darker than the counter). Voila!

Kasey, I know you like the wall color so I would leave it. I thinkg by stripping the cabinets and doing a light natural stain plus adding some cabinet hardware this would be a cheap option that would completely change the look of the kitchen. Good luck!!! Jess

I'm not very creative either. I think I would paint the cabinets white since your trim is white. Then, you could keep your wall color since the poster above says you like it. Just a thought.

I was thinking paint the cabinets white too, and leave the kitchen walls blue.

Okay, I changed my mind from when we talked about this today. I think maybe go ahead with the white on the cabinets... I forgot you have white appliances. (at least two of them)
Then you can leave the wall color and decide if the cabinets lightened up the room enough or if you might want to then lighten up the walls with a taupe or something that ties in the floor. I really like the blue too, but a more neutral color might tie the kitchen all together better.
I think the counters will be okay because like we said today... once the cabinets look better you might like them okay!

My first though was to go with a very neutral green. Not your typical "sage green" that goes in a kitchen, but something warm and soft and restful. Think bamboo. If you went that color, you would have a very natural-looking kitchen without having to do all the work of painting the cabinets and working on the counters/floors, etc.

I like Behr 410B-5 "Hidden Meadow." (And yes, I went and looked up a color for you. I'm that much of a nerd!)
